Is the name given to that GPS software which we can use to work with our own maps, (normally raster), in other words; calibrate them using images scanned from paper maps, join them together, generate 3D views, plan routes, … Or even use moving map, (which is nothing more than navigate whilst viewing your position as a reference on such maps, in real time). This is the general title given to all GPS software capable of generating routes from one point to another automatically, on vector cartography and with a capacity to offer turn by turn instructions, (visual and/or voice), in real time, based on our actual position. These applications can be compatible with various diverse platforms PC’s, PDA’s, Laptops, etc... An example of software from this category is the TomTom Navigator 5.
